Palmitoylation of GAD65 at the PM targets it to the NEGR1-containing cholesterol-enriched microdomains, which are anchored in synapses by NEGR1-containing adhesive bonds ( d ). NEGR1-dependent synaptic clustering of lipid rafts promotes ‘loading’ of palmitoylated GAD65 on the newly formed synaptic vesicles ( e ).
